The difference lies in the hub interface. The new XD SLIM driver body standard is engineered specifically for modern 148mm downhill bikes, allowing for a narrower freehub body and more symmetrical spoke bracing angles. The result is stronger, stiffer, and more evenly tensioned wheel builds. Combined with the inboard positioning of the Full Mount rear derailleur, XD SLIM maximizes drivetrain and rotor clearance while optimizing wheel strength for the demands of World Cup-level downhill racing.
